No gimmicks — just the things that move the needle for real students.
- Speak out loud every day. Even five minutes. Speaking is a muscle.
- Answer in your first sentence. Especially in Part B. Say your point, then support it.
- Develop one idea well instead of listing four in a rush.
- Signpost. “My main reason is…”, “For example…”, “So overall…” make you easy to follow.
- In the group, build on others. “I agree, and I’d add…” beats an unrelated new point.
- Bring quiet members in. “What do you think?” is a scored strength, not a favour.
- Slow down. Nervous students speed up. Breathe and finish your sentences.
- Have recovery lines ready for when you freeze: react to the last speaker, or ask a question.
- Rehearse the real format — with prep time and a proper take — so exam day feels familiar.
- Get honest feedback. Ask for two strengths and one fix — a coach’s draft, not a guessed grade.
That last one is the multiplier: feedback anchored to the assessment domains, refined by practice, is how you actually climb.
